77th Executive Committee Meeting and 23rd General Assembly Meeting

The 77th Executive Committee (EC) Meeting and 23rd General Assembly (GA) Meeting of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) were held on May 2, 2019 at Chandragiri Hills in Nepal. The Meetings were organized by the SAARC CCI in collaboration with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).

The 77th EC and 23rd GA Meetings were chaired by Mr. Ruwan Edirisinghe, President of SAARC CCI. The EC and GA members from South Asian countries gathered in Nepal to take significant decisions in terms of taking SAARC CCI into new heights. Eminent business leaders from Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka actively took part at the meetings scheduled in Nepal from 2nd to 4th of May, 2019.  

Rt. Hon'ble Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Speaker of House of Representatives, Federal Parliament of Nepal, was invited as the chief guest at the inaugural session of 77th EC and 23rd GA Meetings of SAARC CCI. H.E. Mazher Javed, Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal graced the occasion with his valuable presence.

Ms. Hina Saeed, Secretary General SAARC CCI commenced the inaugural session with her welcome note.

Mr. Chandi Raj Dhakal, SAAR CCI Vice President (Nepal) and Ms. Bhawani Rana, President FNCCI warmly welcomed the distinguished guests to Nepal and extended full support to the SAARC CCI delegation attending the meetings in Kathmandu, Nepal.

During the meeting, President of SAARC CCI, Mr. Ruwan Edirisinghe advocated that the main aim of the organization is to improve intra-regional trade in the SAARC region, connectivity and socioeconomic cooperation for the benefit of the people in South Asia. He emphasized that SAARC CCI is a private sector organization and it represents the private sector; hence it should not go behind political agendas which create numerous drawbacks to the organization. Mr. Ruwan Edirisinghe, President SAARC CCI further articulated that the main duty of the organization is to represent SAARC countries for accelerating economic integration and to sustain the economic growth in the region.
