Vice President SCCI, Mr. Chandi Raj Dhakal, Called on Hon’ble Mr. Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of Economic Development, Government of Maldives

Vice President SCCI (Nepal), Mr. Chandi Raj Dhakal called on Hon’ble. Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of Economic Development, Government of Maldives, on September 16, 2021, in Male, Maldives.

Mr. Chandi Raj Dhakal, Vice President (Nepal) SCCI during the meeting discussed the active engagement of the Maldivian business community at SAARC for the prosperity of the Maldivian people. Mr. Dhakal stressed strengthening joint cooperation, and connectivity in the SAARC region for regional economic prosperity, in which SCCI has been playing a vital role. He further highlighted the importance of SCCI activities and how SAARC has worked on regional development.

Mr. Dhakal during the meeting also emphasized the COVID-19 situation that has posed unprecedented challenges to the South Asian economies because of the region’s large population and high rates of poverty, deplorable health infrastructures, poor socioeconomic conditions, inadequate social protection systems, limited access to water and sanitation facilities and inadequate living space preparations.

Therefore, it is high time to develop a roadmap for achieving short, medium, and long-term goals to invigorate the economies considering the essential conditions and needs of vulnerable groups at all levels, Mr. Chandi added.

Hon’ble Minister during the meeting extended his full support to SCCI initiatives and future endeavors mentioning, “Maldives would fully contribute to all important socio-economic initiatives realizing the collective achievement of sustainable development goals in South Asia once the SAARC standing committee takes place”.

Reiterating the vision of SAARC, he highlighted the great importance of augmenting the collective efforts of Maldives and SAARC to enhance regional economic integration.
