Driving Gender Smart Innovations: Building Entrepreneurial Spirit and Productivity During the Pandemic

The SCWEC training program was organized by SCCI in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) on October 8, 2021 at Marriott Hotel, Islamabad, Pakistan, under the title “Driving Gender Smart Innovations: Building Entrepreneurial Spirit and Productivity during the Pandemic”.

The objective of the training was to promote gender equality in the world of entrepreneurship and to understand the importance of psychosocial capacity building for business women, and ways to boost productivity. Furthermore, it intended to enable women entrepreneurs to cope with the challenges created by the pandemic and further develop their enterprises. The training was attended by more than 50 women entrepreneurs from Pakistan. The chief guest of the program was Mr. Nasser Hyatt Maggo, President FPCCI. Mr. Zubair Ahmad Malik, Executive Committee Member, SCCI / former President FPCCI, and Ms. Hina Mansab Khan, Vice Chair, SCWEC also graced the event with their presence.

The inaugural session was followed by three technical sessions entitled “Enhancing Growth & Productivity During the Pandemic, Psychosocial Capacity Building for Businesswomen”, “Why Entrepreneurs Fail” and “Unlocking Entrepreneurial Spirit”. The event commenced with the welcome address of Ms. Hina Mansab Khan, Vice Chair, SCWEC. While addressing the participants, she highlighted the massive economic crisis and widespread social unrest caused by Covid-19 and how the economic hardships of the pandemic have been affecting women and especially female entrepreneurs. Furthermore, she stressed the need to strengthen the women entrepreneurs and to equip them with specialized entrepreneurial skills preparing them with modern propensity and information relating to business marketing and trade during pandemics.

Mr. Zubair Ahmad Malik, Executive Committee Member, SCCI and former President FPCCI, while addressing the participants underscored how essential it is to dig deeper to understand the gender biases rooted in society that limit women’s mobility, interactions, active economic participation and access to business development services. He added that therefore such training programs would enable them to understand the hindrances and empower women entrepreneurs at all levels.

Mr. Nasser Hyatt Maggo, President FPCCI, appreciated the effort made by SCWEC for organizing this event. “In recent days, the newbie women entrepreneurs need more inspiration and confidence to start their business by arranging training programs, seminars, workshops, and women incentives like this. Such initiatives enhance entrepreneurial performance”, said Mr. Maggo.

Certificates of participation were then awarded to the participants at the concluding session of SCWEC training program by Mr. Nasser Hyatt Maggo, President FPCCI, Mr. Zubair Ahmad Malik, Executive Committee Member SCCI, and Ms. Hina Mansab, Vice Chair SCWEC.
