11th China (Sichuan) South & Southeast Asia Business Leaders Summit

SCCI virtually participated in the 11th China (Sichuan) – South & Southeast Asia Business Leaders’ Summit which was held on September 15, 2021 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The Summit was hosted by CCPIT, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, SCCI, and ASEAN-China Centre.

Under the theme “Opportunities, Connection and Cooperation”, the event consisted of the Leaders’ Summit, the Annual Congress of China-Pakistan Business Council, Opportunities and Investment Environment Promotion Conference, South and Southeast Asia Commodities Exhibition, photo exhibition and other activities. It aimed to jointly discuss the signing of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the channel building and integrated development under the new opportunity of Chengdu-Chongqing Twin City Economic Circle, so as to better promote the opening-up and cooperation to the South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Pakistan participated as the Guest of Honor of the 11th China (Sichuan)-South Asia & Southeast Asia Business Leaders’ Summit.

Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre, Ke Liangdong, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and Deng Xiaogang, Deputy Secretary of CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee also addressed the summit.

Mr. Iftikhar Ali Malik, President SCCI, Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ACC, and Mr. Moin ul Haque, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to China, the guest of honor, virtually delivered speeches. More than 300 representatives from 22 embassies and consulates, business associations, trade and investment promotion institutions from 15 South Asian and Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, as well as representatives of relevant industries in Sichuan Province attended the event online and offline.

Mr. Iftikhar Ali Malik, President SCCI expressed the friendship between Pakistan and China “as pure as crystal.” He expressed that South Asian countries are facing challenges in poverty alleviation and industry upgrading. In this regard, he invited investors to visit and establish ties with South Asian countries.

Along with the summit, the Annual Meeting of the China-Pakistan Business Council was held. A photo exhibition was staged to showcase the achievements of the Pak-China economic cooperation.

Mr. Deng Xiaogang pointed out that the major strategic deployment of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin City Economic Circle and the signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) have created rare opportunities for the coordinated development of economic regions, and Sichuan’s position in China’s development and opening-up has become more prominent.

Mr. Chen Dehai said that ACC would continue to play the bridging role and join hands with all partners to make unremitting efforts in promoting ASEAN-China practical cooperation and the wellbeing of the people of all countries in the region.

The Sichuan Liaison Office of South Asia-China Business Council was unveiled at the Summit, aimed to integrate the province into China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It was learned that apart from trade and economic events, the office will also provide all-round backing and supervision in terms of legal affairs, procedures, and information to Pakistani enterprises in Sichuan.

His Excellency Mr. Moin ul Haque, Ambassador of the Pakistani Embassy in China, in his speech, expressed confidence in identifying new opportunities and areas of cooperation in Chengdu. He also emphasized the long-standing partnership with Chengdu, an important economic, financial, commercial, and transportation hub in western China known as the city of gastronomy, home of giant pandas, and center for research and innovation. “We are proud of our special relations with the Sichuan province and the Chengdu city”, added H.E Mr. Haque.
