Magic That Is South Asia: Roundtable on Tourism and Connectivity

SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry in collaboration with the Federation of Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) and in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation and World Bank organized a one day roundtable on Magic that is South Asia , to promote Tourism and Connectivity, at Hotel Termalinca, Thimphu, Bhutan on July 25, 2017.

Over 120 participants were present on the occasion including SAARC CCI members,  Hon’be Minister, Board of Tourism from SAARC countries, Businessmen entrepreneurs, Diplomats, Think Tanks, NGOs, young entrepreneurs and  media representatives.

Mr. Karma Lotey, Former Vice President, SAARC CCI (Bhutan) welcomed the delegates in his welcome speech during the round table. A presentation was made by Mr. Kamran Akbar, Senior Economist, World Bank South Asia on tourism and connectivity across South Asia. The chief guest Hon’ble Mr. Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, Minister, Ministry of Economic Affairs addressed the participants followed by an address by Ms. Sayeda  Mojgan  Mostafavi, Deputy Minister, Minister of Information and Culture, Government of Afghanistan. A vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Karma Dorjee, Vice President, SAARC CCI (Bhutan).

The objective of the roundtable was to identify core issues, mechanism for diminishing the challenges, through a common platform and identify the opportunities to be untapped mutually.  The event aimed to draw a set of policy guidelines, suggestions and recommendations to the member states and the private sector in the promotion of regional tourism across the region.
