She said that the thought behind epitomizing SCWEC is to create and promote trade and regional cooperation, interaction and networking among the women entrepreneurs of South Asia. SCWEC being a compelling platform for women entrepreneurs provides opportunities for intra-regional development of women entrepreneurship, exchange of skills and knowledge among women entrepreneurs and building trade links amongst the women of SAARC region; adding to the efforts of regional integration by promoting intra-regional trade and enhancing people to people connectivity.

Equal access to the political spectrum and finances is crucial for both women and men to articulate and shape public policy solutions that ensure diverse representation of interest in the parliament, government and decision making processes, said Ms. Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Immediate Past Chairperson, SCWEC.

SAARC CCI welcomed Ms. Rifa Musthapha as the Chairperson of SCWEC for year 2017-2018. During her address, Ms. Rifa said that women of South Asia contribute 48.4 percent to the total world population, but lack the support system to grow. Empowering women in South Asia will have far reaching benefits on the economy of these countries. Women need to take the lead in the economic and development sector where their contributions can be recognized and valued. The need of the hour is to support the women entrepreneurs to overcome technical and social hindrances and to equip them further with modern skill and knowledge pertaining to business and trade said Ms. Rifa, Chairperson, SCWEC.
