Unleashing South Asia opening doors to challenging opportunities

SAARC CCI organized a seminar on “Unleashing South Asia opening doors to challenging opportunities” on January 26, 2017 in collaboration with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry and Amritsar Import & Exporter Chambers, in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF). The first session of the seminar was organized in Amritsar followed by a succession session in Lahore, Pakistan.

Media specialists including Mubarak Zeb, Dawn Group, Pakistan, Mr. Hrishikesh Dutt Majunder, South Asian Expert, India, Mr. Navaraj Chalise, South Asian Expert, Nepal, Ms. Ritu Marya, CEO Entrepreneur, India and Ms. Arosha Jayasundera, Journalist, Sri Lanka were invited for a program. An open dialogue was led by the media specialists, invited from the region on SAARI CCI image building and way forward. The chief guest Hon’ble Mr. Manish Sosodia, Deputy CM, Delhi, Mr. Suraj Vaidya, President SAARC CCI, Mr. Macky Hashim, Former President and Executive Committee Member of SAARC CCI (Sri Lanka), Mr. Vinod Juneja SAARC CCI VP (India), Mr. Iftikhar Malik, VP (Pakistan), Mr.  Om Bahadur Rajbhandari, VP (Nepal) Dr. Ronald Meinardus, Regional Director, FNF and the honorable delegates held a pertinent discussion led by the media specialists through the evening.

Honorable Mr. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister Delhi, grace the seminar with his presence and address the august gathering. While addressing the august gathering said that its time we should sit together to find the solution to our problems. He said that it’s very important to create opportunities for youth of South Asia.

Furthermore, it was discussed to take the e-commerce under the SAARC CCI umbrella as e-commerce is the next way of doing business. The President shared that FNF is willing and committed to support the e-commerce initiative.

On February 28, 2017, another open session meeting was held in which Mr. President invited the Media specialists to share their views on projecting a softer and positive image of SAARC and the role of Media in Taking SAARC Forward.  

The Media specialists shared the following ideas:

  • SAARC CCI should share its excellence and create story of brands.
  • Translate the meaning of SAARC into employment and entrepreneurship to make it attractive for the masses.
  • Identify the doable things and capitalize on the low hanging fruits. Short term and long term achievable should be clearly identified and successes shared.
  • Professor Mohammad Tamim, from Bangladesh, reinforced focusing on specific projects in order to get the talk rolling.
