Multi-Stakeholder Consultation Dialogue

A two day "Multi-Stakeholder Consultation Dialogues" was organized by SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry on March 24- 25, 2017 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The dialogue aimed to hold discussions on achieving SAFTA goals and enhancing intra SAARC trade by reducing Non-tariff Barriers (NTBs) in the region.

The conference was attended by the office bearers of SAARC CCI and delegates from SAARC member states. Mr. M. Daood Moosa, Senior Advisor ACCI (Afghanistan), Mr. Shafquat Haider, Director FBCCI (Bangladesh), Mr. Yeshi Tshering, General Secretary (Bhutan Exporters Association), Mr. Pardeep Sehgal, Partner Sinochem Impex (India), Ms. Subhashini Abeysinghe, Research Director, Verite Research (Sri Lanka), Mr. Rajan Sharma, Nepal Freight Forwarder’s Association (Nepal), Mr. Zubair A Malik, Executive Member SAARC CCI (Pakistan), Mr. Dileep Agrawal, CNI (Nepal), Mr. Imran Ali, Regional NTM Desks Coordinator SAARC CCI, Mr. Gunjan Uoadhya, NTM Desk Officer, CNI (Nepal) and Mr. Ayush Siddhi, GIZ Nepal were invited as speakers from SAARC member countries.

The dialogues engaged primary stakeholders to examine and discourse incidents and intensity of non-tariff measures and the hindrances in achieving the goals of SAFTA. The key stakeholders were engaged to embody the regional policy advocacy group. Furthermore, it highlighted the issues and impediments in boosting intra-regional trade. The session referred the respective national governments on the significance of reducing/removals of non-tariff barriers, to not only enhance intra-regional trade in the South Asian region, but also to achieve the objectives of SAARC.
